Gary Dean

Gary Dean was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky and got his start in Radio there in 1968. In 1970 Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was trained as a combat photographer and studio motion picture photographer in Los Angeles, California.

Returning to civilian life in 1974, Gary became a news reporter in Kentucky at WKYT-TV. In 1977, Gary made the move to Greenville, North Carolina and landed the job as evening and late news anchor for WNCT-TV 9. In 1979, he was offered a contract with WCTI-TV in New Bern and thats where he stayed until 1986. In August 1986, Gary was given the chance to anchor the news in Central Indiana at CBS affiliate WTHI-TV. He stayed there until 1991, when a call came from WITN-TV in Washington, North Carolina. Gary jumped at the chance to return to the place he loved, Eastern North Carolina. Gary became the evening and late anchor at WITN-TV from 1991 until 2000 when he decided to retire from Television. That didn't last long. By the next year, Gary became an account executive with COX Communications in Greenville. And, late in 2004 he was offered a contract with FOX 8 FOX 14.

Today, Gary anchors the only prime time newscast in Eastern North Carolina. FOX NEWS AT TEN... THE RIGHT NEWS AT THE RIGHT TIME. And he loves it! Gary has won numerous Broadcast awards, including two Associated Press awards for Documentarys he produced in Europe and Asia.

Gary is also an accomplished musician and artist. He comes from a musical family. Both his father and brother are professional Jazz drummers. Gary also plays the drums but his favorites instrument is the guitar. Garys favorite art mediums are acrylics and pen & ink.
Gary is married to Pamela Sue Nuckols, owner and operator of ADMIX Agency... a multi-media consulting and advertising firm based in Washington. They have one daughter, Mari-Elizabeth Deanna and a son, Sean Nathan. Sean works for the family business as a computer graphics experts. The family spends most of their free time at their favorite location in the world... Cape Lookout.

According to Gary.... "I'm not from Eastern North Carolina... but I got here as fast as I could."

 

 

 

Kara Lusk

Kara Lusk is a News Reporter and Anchor for WNCT-TV and FOX8/FOX14 in Greenville, NC.

Kara first came to WNCT and FOX8/FOX14 in January 2003. Kara is an award-winning journalist with more than 10 years of experience.

In 2006, Kara won a national award from the E-911 Institute of Washington, D.C. for increasing public understanding of the importance of 9-1-1 services. Kara's reporting spurred her community to upgrade its E-911 technology. As a result of her story, six of the 11 eastern N.C. counties lacking wireless E-911 started developing the capabilities for the service.

Also in 2006, Kara won an Associated Press award for Best Consumer Report: “Pure Water or Pure Hype?” about bottled water versus tap water.

In 2005, Kara won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award in the Feature Reporting category for her story “Miracle on 264” about a family who gave birth on Highway 264 during a snow storm—the same highway their son was tragically killed on in a car accident one year before.

Before coming to Greenville, Kara was an Anchor and Reporter for the North Carolina News Network, statewide radio based in Raleigh. While at NCNN, Kara won a statewide public service award from the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of N.C. for a multi-part series addressing the problem of teen pregnancy in this state. Kara also received an Associated Press award for Best Health Report for a series of stories examining the health affects of Hurricane Floyd.

Kara began her journalism career on the airwaves at WCHL in Chapel Hill in 1994 while a student at the University of North Carolina. Kara graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. While at Carolina, Kara was a member of the UNC Dance Team, The High Kicking Heels.

After graduation, Kara continued her experience at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, first as a Newsclerk, then as a Newswriter.

In addition to her passion for news, Kara is very involved in the eastern North Carolina community. Kara is a member of the Pitt-Greenville CrimeStoppers Board. Kara is regularly involved with the N.C. Senior Games, often serving as emcee for Pitt-Greenville Senior Games and State Finals events. Kara also enjoys sharing her love for writing and broadcasting with children, hoping to inspire future journalists. Kara often speaks at schools across the region, and she mentors students from East Carolina University and area community colleges.
